Pela primeira vez na história, o nome da bola da Copa do Mundo da FIFA foi escolhido pelos torcedores: Brazuca, que recebeu 77,8% de 1.119.539 votos e superou Bossa Nova (14,6%) e Carnavalesca (7,6%) como substituta da Jabulani em 2014, no Brasil.

A eleição começou no dia 12 de agosto no GLOBOESPORTE.COM e foi encerrada neste domingo durante o Esporte Espetacular, com o anúncio do resultado feito pelo ex-lateral-direito Cafu - campeão mundial em 1994 e 2002.

Em seu site oficial, a FIFA definiu Brazuca como "um termo informal, utilizado pelos brasileiros para descrever o orgulho nacional pelo estilo de vida do país. Simboliza emoção, orgulho e boa vontade com todos, de forma semelhante à abordagem local ao futebol."

- Estou muito feliz coma participação direta dos torcedores brasileiros na escolha do nome de um dos símbolos mais importantes do evento. Tenho certeza que a bola Brazuca entrará para a história junto com outras famosas bolas de futebol da Copa do Mundo, como a Tango, utilizada em 1978 na Argentina, e a Azteca, que esteve em jogo em 1986 no México - disse o secretário-geral da entidade, Jérome Valcke.

Logo após o lançamento da eleição, Brazuca surgiu como favorita e ganhou o apoio de alguns campeões do mundo pela Seleção:

- É pra botar para quebrar. Brazuca tem mais cara de barulho, cara de Seleção, cara de vitória – disse Zagallo, vencedor como jogador em 1958 e 1962, como treinador em 1970 e como auxiliar de Carlos Alberto Parriera em 1994.

- É mais fácil para os estrangeiros e é um nome legal. É uma espécie de apelido dos brasileiros que moram fora do país – concordou Carlos Alberto Torres, capitão do tri no México.

- Tem mais a ver com a gente, com o Brasil. Brazuca é como chamam os jogadores brasileiros aqui fora. É como somos conhecidos – afirmou o ex-lateral-esquerdo Roberto Carlos, titular da campanha do penta em 2002.

O nome da bola já está definido, mas a adidas ainda não revelou como será o design da Brazuca. A produção está sendo feita em uma fábrica na Alemanha, que foi visitada pelo Esporte Espetacular (veja no vídeo ao lado).

Jogadores da geração atual também declararam voto para Brazuca. O atacante Vagner Love, do Flamengo, e o meia Lucas, do São Paulo, compareceram a lojas da ADIDAS e participaram da eleição.

- Como a Copa será aqui, Brazuca tem a ver com o Brasil – disse o rubro-negro após votar no Rio de Janeiro.

- Escolhi o nome Brazuca porque combina com o meu nome. Lucas e Brazuca, não rima? Dá até samba (risos) – contou o são-paulino.

Brazuca ganhou o voto de medalhistas olímpicos de outras modalidades, como Natália Pereira e Leandro Vissotto, do vôlei, e Mayra Aguiar, do judô. Os três participaram da eleição em São Paulo e foram unânimes na escolha:

- É a cara do Brasil, muito alegre, é o que tem mais a ver com o nosso país. Até mesmo a gente chama brasileiro de “Brazuca”, então tem a nossa cara, mesmo – disse Natália, que ganhou o ouro em Londres com a seleção feminina de vôlei.

A Brazuca já tem data para entrar em campo: dia 12 de junho de 2014 na estreia da Seleção na Copa do Mundo FIFA, na Arena Corinthians, em São Paulo. A final será em 13 de julho, no Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro.
