Me parecia que era um compromisso de justiça assinar um contrato com o Pelé 37 anos depois dele encerrar seu último contrato com o Santos. Faço isso como uma dívida de gratidão. Ele fez o Santos acreditar que não éramos um peixe de aquário, mas um peixe oceânico", disse o presidente santista, Luis Álvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro.

"Eu amo o Santos. Cheguei aqui com 14 para 15 anos e joguei um ano de graça, só para essa mulecada ver o tamanho do meu amor. O Santos abriu as portas do mundo para mim e eu poderia fazer qualquer coisa para o Santos", disse o Rei.
