A reeleição de Jeffrey Webb como presidente da Confederação do Norte, América Central e Associação Caribenha de Futebol (Concacaf) foi confirmada na quinta-feira e todos os seus membros reuniram-se para continuar com Joseph Blatter, como presidente da FIFA.
Webb continuar em seu papel foi uma formalidade após o congresso na Concacaf no mês passado falando que iria ficar sem oposição para o período 2015-2019 no Congresso de ontem, nas Bahamas. Cayman Islander Webb assumiu o comando da Concacaf em maio de 2012, na sequência de um período turbulento para a organização, sob a liderança do ex-presidente Jack Warner e ex-secretário geral Chuck Blazer.
Após sua reeleição, Webb disse: "Concacaf está - mais do que nunca - unidos por uma visão. Nós representamos a nossa região no cenário global, com uma voz forte e coesa. As barreiras invisíveis que têm dificultado o progresso da região por décadas estão diminuindo, e nós estamos vendo níveis sem precedentes de sucesso dentro e fora de campo. "
O post do Comitê Executivo da FIFA para a região da América Central era a única posição contestada para a eleição no Congresso, com um incumbente, da Guatemala, Rafael Salguero, desafiado por Eduardo Li da Costa Rica. O desafio foi bem sucedido com Sonia Bien-Aime também eleito para ocupar o recém-criado cargo de membro do sexo feminino no Comitê Executivo da Concacaf. A re-eleição de Webb significa que ele continuará também como vice-presidente da FIFA, para os próximos quatro anos.
O Congresso da Concacaf preparou o palco para os mais recentes desenvolvimentos na corrida para a presidência da FIFA. Blatter, que está candidatando-se à um quinto mandato, e que começou em 1998, recebeu promessas de apoio de 10 federações. A Federação de Trinidad e Tobago elogiou o suíço como o "pai do futebol", enquanto o presidente da federação da República Dominicana, Osiris Guzman, o comparou a Jesus Cristo, Winston Churchill e Nelson Mandela. "Eu acho que a adesão da Concacaf está enviando uma mensagem clara de que continuamos a apoiar o presidente Blatter", e Webb, que tem sido associada a um futuro funcionamento para a presidência da FIFA, disse.
O apoio da Concacaf vem poucos dias depois de o presidente da Confederação de Futebol Africano Issa Hayatou sustentar que os 54 membros da CAF vai ficar por trás da campanha de reeleição de Blatter. Em seu discurso aos delegados na CONCACAF, Blatter fez questão de afirmar que a região da Concacaf deve receber um quarto lugar na Copa do Mundo de 2018.
Todos os três candidatos que concorrem contra Blatter - Associação Holandesa de Futebol (KNVB) presidente Michael van Praag, o príncipe da Jordânia Ali Bin Al Hussein e ex-Portugal internacional Luis Figo - estiveram presentes nas Bahamas Reunião dos Delegados privada, como eles têm feito em outra confederação continental reuniões.
"Sabíamos de antemão que havia apoio para o senhor Blatter nesta região," Van Praag disse à agência de notícias Reuters, em referência a 10 federações do Caribe e da América Central falando em apoio Blatter. "Mas eu sei de minhas reuniões que há também países da Concacaf que querem uma mudança, têm a certeza de que e eles não vão votar para o senhor Blatter".
Van Praag acrescentou: "Eu estava na África em seu congresso em Cairo na semana passada e há delegados de países africanos que também querem uma mudança agora e que leem os vários programas do príncipe Ali, Luis Figo e eu. Eles mantêm seus cartões perto de seu peito e eles não querem divulgar aos outros o que eles vão fazer. O Congresso da FIFA tem um voto secreto, por isso não pode haver surpresas.
Eu já estava prevendo isso, este senhor de 79 anos é uma tremenda raposa, e não irá largar os ovos da galinha de ouro, a não ser quando for para o outro plano (infelizmente), mas, assim é o futebol, tem uma liga que não tem explicação (para alguns é claro), porque para nós que estamos no futebol e que já rodamos um pouco neste mundão afora, esta liga chama-se dinheiro facil, quando não se tem transparência e decência e assim o futebol vai descendo pelo ralo. Pobre destes tres "possiveis", candidatos, nem ao menos chegam perto de algum fim de tunel.
E olhe que até o Platini deu ré, imaginem o resto, o tal José compra tudo que estiver na sua frente e assim irá ficar na FIFA, como ficou João Havelange.

Jeffrey Webb’s re-election as president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) was confirmed on Thursday as members rallied behind Sepp Blatter to continue as head of Fifa.
Webb continuing in his role was a formality after Concacaf last month said he would stand unopposed for the 2015 to 2019 period at yesterday’s Congress in the Bahamas. Cayman Islander Webb took over the helm at Concacaf in May 2012 in the wake of a turbulent period for the organisation under the leadership of former president Jack Warner and ex-general secretary Chuck Blazer.
Following his re-election, Webb said: “Concacaf is - more than ever - united by one vision. We represent our region on the global stage with one strong and cohesive voice. The invisible barriers that have hampered the region’s progress for decades are diminishing, and we are seeing unprecedented levels of success both on and off the pitch.”
The Fifa Executive Committee post for the Central American region was the only contested position for election at the Congress, with incumbent, Guatemala's Rafael Salguero, challenged by Costa Rica’s Eduardo Li. The challenge proved successful with Sonia Bien-Aime also elected to occupy the newly created position of female member on the Concacaf Executive Committee. Webb’s re-election means he will also continue as a Fifa vice-president for the next four years.
The Concacaf Congress set the stage for the latest developments in the race for the Fifa presidency. Blatter, who is seeking a fifth term in office to extend a tenure that began in 1998, received pledges of support from 10 federations. The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association praised the Swiss as the “father of football” while the president of the Dominican Republic's federation, Osiris Guzman, compared the 79-year-old to Jesus Christ, Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela. “I think Concacaf membership is sending a clear message that we continue to support president Blatter,” Webb, who has been linked to a future run for the Fifa presidency, said.
The Concacaf backing comes just days after Confederation of African Football president Issa Hayatou maintained that CAF’s 54 members will stand behind Blatter’s re-election campaign. In his address to Concacaf delegates, Blatter made a point of stating that the Concacaf region should receive a fourth spot at the 2018 World Cup.
All three candidates running against Blatter – Dutch Football Association (KNVB) president Michael van Praag, Jordan's Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and former Portugal international Luis Figo – were in attendance in the Bahamas meeting delegates privately, as they have been doing in other continental confederation meetings.
“We knew in advance there was support for Mr Blatter in this region,” Van Praag told the Reuters news agency, in reference to 10 Caribbean and Central American federations speaking in support of Blatter. “But I know from my meetings that there also countries in Concacaf that want a change, they are sure of that and they are not going to vote for Mr Blatter.”
Van Praag added: “I was in Africa at their congress in Cairo last week and there are delegates from African countries who also want a change now and who read the various programmes of Prince Ali, Luis Figo and myself. They keep their cards close to their chest and they don't want to disclose to others what they are going to do. The Fifa congress has a secret ballot, so there can be surprises.
I was anticipating this, a man with 79 years older is a tremendous intelligent (like a fox), and will not drop the eggs of the golden chicken, unless it is for the other plan (pass way - unfortunately), but so is football, has a glue that has no explanation (for some people of course), because for us that we are in football for a certainly time, and already ran a little apart from this big world, this alloy is called "easy money" and "power", when there is no transparency and decency and so, our football will go down at the drain. Poor these three "possible" candidates, not even come close to some end of the tunnel.
And look that even Platini backed up, imagine the rest, the one José buy whatever is in front of you and so will be in FIFA, like Joao Havelange was with.
