Um grupo de pressão novo chamado 'New Fifa Now ", lançado hoje (quarta-feira), no Parlamento Europeu, em Bruxelas, na Bélgica, em uma tentativa de reformar a entidade máxima do futebol mundial.
A coalizão, que tem o aparente apoio de um número de políticos e desportivos influentes bem como administradores de clubes, e que poderia adicionar um toque para o período de preparação para a eleição presidencial da FIFA em maio, quando compete novamente Sepp Blatter e vai procurar se re-eleger para um quinto mandato. Entre os oradores do evento de lançamento incluiu David Triesman, ex-presidente da Associação de Futebol Inglês, o candidato presidencial da FIFA, Jerome Champagne e outro potencial candidato chamado Harold Mayne-Nicholls do Chile, bem como um número de deputados do Parlamento Europeu.
O PM britânico Damian Collins tem sido a força motriz por trás da criação do grupo, que lançou um charter para a reforma da FIFA e um plano de 10 pontos para a mudança. "Nunca antes foi feito uma tentativa de reunir uma coalizão internacional de pessoas de diferentes instituições e organizações, quer se trate de futebol, negócios ou parlamentos, que viram a imagem da FIFA ir de mal a pior", Collins disse à agência de notícias Reuters.
"Percebemos que a escala do problema tornou-se tão grande que precisava de uma enorme resposta parecida a esta que estamos tentando começar hoje. Acho que chegamos a um ponto de inflexão e eu espero que nós estejamos dando confiança para mais pessoas em todo o mundo que venha para participar desta chamada para a FIFA mudar. "
Bonita Mersiades, um ex-membro da Football Federation da Australia e do corpo diretivo, da tentativa mal sucedida da Austrália sediar a Copa do Mundo de 2022, disse: "O tempo passou para a evolução. Assino em baixo com louvor, somente não esperava que isso partisse do Primeiro Ministro Ingles (pois não gostava de sua atitude e principalmente quando veiu ao Brasil e conversou muita coisa sem nexo), mas, retiro o que pensava e disse dele e bato palmas para esta tentativa de mudança. Já não era sem tempo, meus amigos, o futebol e o mundo esperam por isso a tempo.
A new pressure group called ‘New Fifa Now’ launched today (Wednesday) at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium in a bid to reform football’s global governing body.
The coalition, which has the apparent support of a number of influential politicians and sports administrators, could add a twist to the run-up to the Fifa presidential election in May, when incumbent Sepp Blatter will seek a fifth term at the helm. Speakers at the launch event included David Triesman, the former chairman of the English Football Association, Fifa presidential candidate Jerome Champagne and potential candidate Harold Mayne-Nicholls of Chile, as well as a number of European Members of Parliament.
British MP Damian Collins has been the driving force behind the creation of the group, which has launched a charter for Fifa reform and a 10-point plan for change. “There has never before been an attempt to bring together an international coalition of people from different institutions and organisations, whether it’s football, business or parliaments, who have seen Fifa's image go from bad to worse,” Collins told the Reuters news agency.
“We realised that the scale of the problem had become so great it needed a huge response which we are trying to start today. I think we have reached a tipping point and I hope we are giving confidence to more people around the world to join the call for Fifa to change.”
Bonita Mersiades, a former member of the Football Federation Australia governing body and part of Australia’s unsuccessful bid for the 2022 World Cup, said: “The time has passed for evolution. We need a revolution. People tore down the Berlin Wall and it is time for us to do the same and rebuild a new Fifa.”
Triesman added: “We have reached the absurd situation where the leaders of the world game go around as if they were the heads of state, which is not the way the sport should be governed. A deeply flawed set of people run Fifa and these people could not have survived if, for example, they had been running a private company or a corporation.”
