O brasileiro João Havelange, um dos dirigentes mais influentes e importantes da história do esporte, já enviou uma carta à presidência do Comitê Olímpico Internacional anunciando seu desligamento da entidade. O cartola alega que o afastamento acontece por problemas de saúde, mas reportagem do jornal O Estado de S.Paulo afirma que Havelange afastou-se para escapar de denúncias de corrupção.
Nesta semana, o COI tomaria uma decisão sobre o caso de João Havelange, após investigação conduzida pelo Comitê de Ética. A saída de Havelange pode ter influência direta na situação de Ricardo Teixeira na FIFA, já que a investigação à qual o veterano se antecipou também recai sobre o atual presidente da CBF.
