O presidente da FIFA, Joseph Blatter, confirmou que vai ficar para a reeleição para mais um quinto mandato. 

O suiço de 78 anos, fez o anúncio em uma entrevista em vídeo na Convenção Global Soccerex em Manchester hoje (08 de setembro de 2014). 

"Minha missão não acabou", disse ele em uma entrevista pré-gravada em Zurique. 

"Eu disse ao Congresso da FIFA, eu disse aos congressos das confederações, etc. Então, até no último congresso em São Paulo, falei isso e tive não só a impressão, mas o apoio da maioria, a grande maioria das associações nacionais que nos pedem "Por favor, vá em frente, para ser o nosso presidente também no futuro". 

Blatter disse que iria anunciar oficialmente suas intenções na reunião do Comité Executivo da FIFA em setembro dias 25-26. 

Apesar do esmagador apoio de cinco das seis confederações regionais, porque a UEFA fica ao lado, Blatter preferiu esperar até depois que o presidente da UEFA, Michel Platini decidiu não concorrer com ele, antes de anunciar que iria ficar para a reeleição. 

Platini decidiu no final de agosto, que ele não iria desafiar Blatter e em vez disso, informou a UEFA de suas intenções de concorrer a mais um mandato como Presidente desta liga, com a eleição, em Março de 2015. 

Blatter é o grande favorito para ser reeleito para um quinto mandato em 29 de maio de 2015, com o ex-vice-geral da FIFA Jerome Champagne, que anunciou sua candidatura em janeiro, e é visto como um estranho para ser eleito.

Infelizmente como se pode querer que o futebol mude e se atualize. quem entra não quer sair mais. E isto começa aqui mesmo, na FPF, CBF, UEFA e FIFA, vou parar aqui, porque teria que colocar todas os clubes, federações, confederações no mundo e com rarissimas exceções.

The 78-year-old Swiss made the announcement in a video interview at the Soccerex Global Convention in Manchester today.

“My mission is not finished,” he said in a pre-recorded interview in Zurich.

“I have told the FIFA Congress, I have told the congresses of the confederations. Then I got through the last congress in Sao Paulo not only the impression but the support of the majority, a huge majority of national associations asking ‘Please go on, be our president also in future.”

Blatter said he would officially announce his intentions at the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on September 25-26.

Despite overwhelming support from five of the six regional confederations, UEFA aside, Blatter chose to wait until after UEFA President Michel Platini had decided not to run, before announcing he would stand for re-election.

Platini decided at the end of August he would not challenge Blatter and instead informed UEFA of his intentions to run for another term as President, with the election in March 2015.

Blatter is the strong favourite to be re-elected for a fifth term on May 29, with former FIFA deputy general Jerome Champagne, who announced his candidacy in January, seen as an outsider to be elected.
