O que era muito especulado se tornou oficial na manhã desta quarta-feira. O presidente da UEFA, Michel Platini, anunciou que vai concorrer à presidência da FIFA na eleição que vai definir o sucessor de Joseph Blatter no comando da entidade máxima do futebol mundial.
A eleição será feita pelo Conselho Extraordinário da FIFA em 26 de fevereiro de 2016 e vai definir quem irá suceder Blatter no comando da entidade. O suíço tomou a decisão de deixar o posto após as investigações de escândalos de corrupções e prisões de dirigentes da FIFA nos últimos meses.
Mandatário da UEFA desde 2007, Platini disse que o anúncio ocorre em um momento decisivo em sua vida e que ele vai agir apenas pelos "interesses do futebol".
"Isso é muito pessoal e tomei cuidado ao tomar essa decisão, porque pesei o futuro do futebol junto com o meu futuro", disse ele em comunicado para todas as 209 associações da FIFA.
"Eu estou sendo guiado e encorajado pelo apoio que muitos de vocês mostraram. Existem momentos na vida em que você precisa definir seu destino com suas próprias mãos, e estou em um desses momentos decisivos. É uma junção de meu futuro junto com o futuro da FIFA", completou.
"Durante a última metade de século, a FIFA teve apenas dois presidentes. Essa estabilidade extrema é um paradoxo com um mundo que tem experimentado mudanças radicais, com o esporte sofrendo consideráveis mudanças econômicas", continuou.
"Contudo, eventos recentes fizeram a força do governo da FIFA cair e repensar seu comando. Eu conto com seu apoio. Nós todos amamos o futebol e, por isso, juntos, vamos dar aos milhares de milhões de fãs do futebol a FIFA que eles querem: A FIFA exemplar, unida e que mostra solidariedade. A FIFA respeitável, como é o povo", finalizou.
A FIFA já tem dois candidatos confirmados ao cargo de presidente. Além de Platini, a lenda brasileira Zico já confirmou que vai lutar pelo comando da entidade.
Bem, dos males o menor, mas, ainda tenho minhas dúvidas se as coisas realmente irão acontecer, pois tenho visto e entendido com as manobras da velha raposa (Joseph blatter), de que ele ainda não aceitou a ideia de sair e está fazendo de tudo para ficar. Vamos esperar para ver e ficar na torcida de que seja eleito o melhor ao invés do mais rico ( que é o caso do Principe do Catar). E lógicamente que o Zico não terá muitas chances, pois já deveria esta viajando e visitando todas as Ferações, coisa que não sei se está fazendo.

UEFA president Michel Platini today (Wednesday) confirmed his intention to stand for the presidency of FIFA, stating that he has been encouraged by the support he has received from the member associations of world football’s governing body.
Today’s confirmation follows widespread speculation that Platini (pictured) would firm up his ambitions this week, with the news revealed in a letter sent by the Frenchman to the presidents and general secretaries of the 209 member associations of FIFA.
Platini said: “This was a very personal, carefully considered decision, one in which I weighed up the future of football alongside my own future. I was also guided by the esteem, support and encouragement that many of you have shown me.”
The UEFA president pledged that he would work tirelessly “in the interests of football”. He added: “There are times in life when you have to take your destiny into your own hands. I am at one of those decisive moments, at a juncture in my life and in events that are shaping the future of FIFA.”
FIFA this month said that the election for its new president will be held on February 26 as incumbent Sepp Blatter confirmed he would not stand again. The deadline for submission of candidates for the office of FIFA president must take place in writing, together with the declarations of support of at least five national associations, by October 26. Blatter announced his plans to resign four days after securing re-election for a fifth term in May amid American and Swiss criminal investigations into corruption in world football.
Platini has been president of UEFA since 2007 and a member of the FIFA Executive Committee since 2002. Platini was long considered Blatter’s heir apparent but the two men have grown distant in recent times, and the Frenchman has since been a vocal critic of his Swiss rival and the FIFA administration.
The 59-year-old was re-elected UEFA president by acclamation by delegates at the UEFA Congress in March after standing unopposed. It was the second time the former France national team captain and manager has retained his post without facing a challenger, having secured another term at the helm in 2011 after his initial election in 2007.
Platini today said: “During this last half-century or so, FIFA has only had two presidents. This extreme stability is something of a paradox in a world that has experienced radical upheavals and in a sport that has undergone considerable economic change. However, recent events force the supreme governing body of world football to turn over a new leaf and rethink its governance.”
Stating that he will seek to give FIFA back the “dignity and the position it deserves” Platini added to FIFA’s member associations: “I am counting on your support and our common love of football so that, together, we can give the tens of millions of football fans the FIFA that they want: a FIFA that is exemplary, united and shows solidarity; a FIFA that is respected, liked and of the people.”
Well, the lesser of evils, but I still have my doubts whether things will really happen because I have seen and understood with the old fox maneuvers (Joseph Blatter), that he has not yet accepted the idea of going out of the FIFA presidency and doing the all to stay. Let's wait and see and stay in cheerleading to be voted the best rather than the richest (which is the case of the Prince of Qatar). And logically that Zico will not have many chances, because he should this traveling and visiting all Federações, which does not know if he's doing.
