Paris, França - Ponderado, educado, cortês, excelente profissional, o técnico da Seleção Brasileira, Mano Menezes, se mostrava tranquilo horas antes do amistoso contra a Seleção Francesa, quando recebeu a reportagem do Superesportes para um bate-papo.
Consciente do que precisa fazer para resgatar o verdadeiro futebol brasileiro, cultiva a meta de que é mais importante formar um grupo forte para 2014, mesmo que sofra revezes como as derrotas para Argentina e França. Em ambas as partidas, seu time atuou de igual para igual e perdeu nos detalhes, sem contar que, na última, não contou com Neymar e Ganso, dois jovens craques que já fazem a diferença. Traçamos um objetivo e vamos nesta linha. “Mas as vitórias terão de ocorrer, pois, sem elas, não vai dar para equilibrar o trabalho e isso será um sinal de que algo está errado”.
Sereno, sem fugir de nenhuma pergunta, esse gaúcho de 48 anos falou do seu momento no comando da única seleção cinco vezes campeã do mundo, da carreira e dos valores morais recebidos dos pais, que lhe dão a diretriz para a vida e o trabalho.
´Temos de copiar o Brasil vencedor`
Você foi convidado pela CBF para resgatar a verdadeira história do futebol brasileiro. Portanto, resultados de Copa América e Copa das Confederações não serão decisivas para sua permanência.
Penso que formar uma Seleção Brasileira com uma característica, um padrão do futebol que queremos ver, é importante. Esse trabalho vai passar por etapas, e ganhar dentro dessas etapas pode não ser o mais importante. Há maneiras de ganhar e de ganhar, de perder e de perder.
Precisamos ver naquilo que a Seleção vai formando uma consistência do que pretendemos para 2014. O resultado é parte importante de uma formação, porque passa confiança para os jogadores, para o técnico e para quem está analisando. Mas, sem dúvida, nem sempre é o mais importante.
Sei que o presidente da CBF te garantiu que os resultados não serão decisivos para sua manutenção, e sim o trabalho realizado, formando um grupo que apresente o futebol que nos consagrou...
Veja um exemplo bem objetivo. Jogamos contra a Argentina, perdemos por 1 a 0, mas não jogamos mal. Poderíamos ter vencido também. Mas não podemos ficar perdendo jogos que sabemos tínhamos condições de vencer. É claro que não podemos perder toda hora, mesmo jogando bem, porque será sinal de que precisa melhorar encontrar soluções. Esse é meu objetivo no comando da equipe. Formar um time forte para o Mundial de 2014.
Em relação aos jogadores brasileiros, já não temos tantos craques como no passado. O que acha da nova safra?
Penso que temos um grupo muito talentoso, alguns jogadores muito promissores, mas apenas promissores. Não temos um parâmetro confiável em nível de competição internacional, contra grandes seleções, e é isso que estamos vendo neste momento: pondo esses atletas com a camisa da Seleção Principal para saber que tipos de comportamento terão ao enfrentar as potências do mundo.
Só há esse caminho para ver que tipo de comportamento eles vão ter. E, mesmo com um risco maior, escolhemos jogar contra a Argentina, França, Holanda, Alemanha, pois é muito importante para a gente em termos de comparação. Sei que, contra Irã, Ucrânia vai jogar 20 vezes e ganhar 19, mas ainda vai faltar a comparação com os grandes jogadores e grandes seleções.
Neymar e Ganso são os promissores, Robinho realidade, Kaká sempre foi um coadjuvante. O que pensa sobre eles?
Vai depender única exclusivamente do rendimento deles. Você não precisa ter essa preocupação com Kaká, mas precisa ter com Neymar e Ganso. Kaká é uma realidade, já está acostumado à Seleção e sabe que postura deve ter. O futebol envolve grandes circunstâncias e talvez a grande chance de o Kaká brilhar tenha sido a Copa da África do Sul, mas ele não chegou bem fisicamente.
Para disputar uma grande competição, tudo conspira a favor, mas é preciso o grupo estar bem para que o talento sobressaia. Estou aqui para fazer uma seleção forte e quem vai assumir essa responsabilidade de brilhar vai depender do momento e do próprio grupo. Kaká tem condições para ser esse jogador, pois tecnicamente é acima da média. Mas outros jogadores vão aparecer nesse período.
Mas você admite que só se ganha Copa do Mundo com talento, já que foi assim com Pelé, Romário, Ronaldo...?
Penso que o talento continua sendo fundamental. A fórmula que se tem usado é trabalho com comprometimento, elevado ao talento. Aí, se o jogador talentoso estiver comprometido e a gente conseguir fazer um trabalho bem planejado, bem organizado e estaremos no caminho certo.
Dos 22 jogadores que trouxe a Paris, todos atuam na Europa, e bons valores foram deixados no Brasil. Você não acha que o ideal seria não abrir tanto o leque?
Acho que 90 ou 100 é um número muito alto e posso incorrer no erro de me perder na trajetória e ter pouco parâmetro confiável para a avaliação. Uma amostragem muito pequena também é pouco para se fazer a avaliação. Acho que o ideal é ter um grupo com alternativas, em que se possa testar nos jogos e dar o máximo de sequência para a análise correta do que o atleta pode produzir.
O que pesa na avaliação de um atleta?
Sou a favor da disciplina, pois sem ela não se vai a lugar nenhum. Mas não aquela autoritária, de querer tudo muito rigoroso, de não pode fazer isso, aquilo. Cada um tem a sua responsabilidade, assim como eu tenho como técnico. Temos grandes jogadores, com grande trajetória, que têm de assumir essa responsabilidade. Saber o que é importante fora de campo, que sua imagem seja respeitada, cabe a cada um. Não temos de avaliar a vida de ninguém.
O que mais me interessa mesmo é o comportamento dentro do campo, jogador com qualidade, personalidade para saber resolver os problemas que acontecem numa partida de futebol, e muitas vezes o técnico não tem nem condições de interferir. O jogador inteligente, com capacidade de leitura de jogo e de fazer correções dentro do campo, é fundamental.
Você consegue avaliar um jogador em 10, 20, 30 minutos ou somente em uma partida inteira?
Uma partida inteira ainda é pouco para essa avaliação. Você não sabe se o jogador teve dificuldades, se o jogo apresentou dificuldades. É preciso uma análise um pouco mais ampla. Talvez você conheça um jogador melhor no treino do que no jogo, embora a partida seja o parâmetro mais confiável.
Independentemente do adversário, é preciso resgatar o futebol brasileiro e um esboço a gente viu na tua estreia, contra os Estados Unidos. É aquilo que você quer sempre?
É aquilo que eu quero. Temos capacidade de jogar assim. De períodos em períodos, o futebol mundial passa por transformações, e hoje nós vemos as seleções, inclusive a da Espanha, apresentando um futebol muito parecido com aquele que queremos na Seleção Brasileira. Não vamos copiar a Espanha, até porque não precisamos. Temos de copiar o Brasil vencedor, de trajetória altamente positiva e vencedora.
Como vê o futebol mundial hoje? Houve alguma evolução da Holanda de 1974 para cá? Já tivemos duas Copas, 1994 e 2006, decididas nos pênaltis...
Existe uma equiparação em termos de trabalho. A gente vê hoje, numa equipe menor, em clubes, que o trabalho é bem parecido com o feito nos grandes clubes. A diferença antes era acentuada. Hoje, não. Todos têm acesso às informações, o que não ocorria, a parte física se equiparou muito, mas acho que mesmo entre as Copas decididas nos pênaltis houve uma diferença grande.
O futebol jogado na África do Sul foi acima dos últimos anos, pelo menos o das equipes que chegaram à fase final. A final França x Itália (2006) foi abaixo de Holanda x Espanha (2010) em termos técnicos. Quase que o desfecho foi semelhante, mas com futebol diferente.
Em relação à Seleção Brasileira, você esperava ser o treinador tão cedo?
Nunca fiz um planejamento pessoal de chegar à Seleção para a Copa de 2014. Isso é consequência do trabalho e sempre estive preparado para as oportunidades. Mas sempre me preocupei em fazer um ótimo trabalho no dia a dia. O futuro é consequência. Se você pensar muito lá na frente, não faz o momento. E, se não fizer bem o momento, não vai chegar a lugar nenhum.
O que é ser técnico da Seleção e o que mudou em sua vida?
Ser técnico da Seleção é um privilégio para o técnico de futebol, pois tem a capacidade de poder trabalhar com os melhores jogadores do mundo e ao mesmo tempo uma responsabilidade grande, pois está dirigindo o que há de mais emocionante e de paixão para o torcedor brasileiro. É preciso estar muito capaz, equilibrado, muito bem com a vida, para que se conduza com lucidez à frente da Seleção. A vida do clube e a da Seleção é diferente.
O clube te puxa o dia a dia, na Seleção, você precisa ir atrás do trabalho. Na Seleção, você pode escolher os melhores. No clube, não. Mas o trabalho precisa ir se repetindo na condição de convocação, de formação de equipe, para compensar a dificuldade. Manter o entrosamento de uma convocação para outra, de uma partida para a outra, exatamente para os jogadores se sentirem confiantes, se conhecerem mais.
Você é polido e educado. Como é a relação com a imprensa?
Acho que a palavra certa para a relação entre técnico e imprensa é exatamente respeito. O respeito pelo trabalho de cada um. Não me incomoda a crítica técnica, em relação ao trabalho. Cada um tem a sua responsabilidade. Você escreve uma coluna e as pessoas te lêem, você tem de ser responsável por aquilo que escreveu, pois forma opinião. Se errar, amanhã será cobrado pelo seu leitor, assim como o técnico. Se essa relação for baseada no respeito mútuo, não terei problema.
Agora, não gosto de desrespeito, desonestidade, da crítica intencionada para algumas situações. Essa incomoda a mim e a todas as pessoas, pois ninguém gosta disso. Já tive meus atritos, principalmente lá no Rio Grande do Sul, pois santo de casa sofre mais, mas, no fim, nos entendemos bem.
Qual é a tua visão sobre os empresários dos jogadores?
Estamos criando um ambiente e tudo o que for saudável e não atrapalhar, não for excessivo, você pode permitir. Mas cada coisa tem a sua hora. É preciso acabar com essa mania de a toda hora que o jogador está concentrado o agente resolver aparecer para conversar.
Vai conversar em outro momento. Mas, como é um momento de exposição, as pessoas se aproveitam para se mostrar. Mas o jogador também precisa ter mais responsabilidade nisso e estabelecer uma relação mais transparente com o seu agente. Não adianta fazer normas, regras e as querer impor de cima para baixo.
Falta-nos o ouro olímpico. É um sonho seu pôr a medalha olímpica no peito?
Se o Brasil conquistar a medalha olímpica, o título será do Brasil. Quem ganhar vai ficar na história, mas uma história construída aos poucos, em cima dos momentos em que não ganhamos. Será uma consequência do futebol. O Ney Franco está fazendo um belíssimo trabalho.
Está totalmente adaptado à nova função? Sente aquele friozinho na barriga?
O frio na barriga é fundamental, pois, quando se perde, isso fica muito perigoso. Frio na barriga quer dizer “motivação”, uma grande oportunidade que está à sua frente e você deve aproveitar.

The club pulls you day by day, in the selection; you need to go after work. In selection, you can choose the best. In the club, no. You are polite and courteous. How is the relationship with the press?
I think the right word for the relationship between coach and press is just about it. Respect for each other's work. I do not bother to critique technique, in relation to work. Each has its own responsibility. You write a column and the people you read, you must be responsible for what you wrote, because shape opinion. If you miss, tomorrow will be charged by your player, as coach. If this relationship is based on mutual respect, I have no problem. Now, do not like disrespect, dishonesty, criticism intended for some situations. This bothers me and all people, because nobody likes that. I've had my clashes, mainly over at Rio Grande do Sul, because holy house suffers more, but in the end, we got along.
What is your view on the players' agents?
We are creating an environment and all that is healthy and not disturbing, is not excessive, you can afford. But everything has its time. We must stop this mania all the time that the player is concentrated agent solving appear to talk. Will talk at another time. But, as a teaching moment, people take advantage to show off. But the player also needs to take more responsibility for this and establish a more transparent relationship with your agent.
