A FIFA não trabalha com outra alternativa: São Paulo vai abrir a Copa do Mundo de 2014. Nem mesmo as declarações do presidente Joseph Blatter, dizendo que preferia ver o Rio como a sede do jogo inaugural, terá peso na decisão da entidade. No congresso da FIFA, nos dias 20 e 21 de outubro, em Zurique, a capital paulista vai ser finalmente confirmada com o primeiro jogo do Mundial.

'A abertura será em São Paulo, já está definido. Para se ter uma ideia clara, o Rio, mencionado pelo Blatter, nem se candidatou a sede da abertura. O Rio quer e vai receber a final da Copa', disse uma alta fonte do Comitê Organizador Local (COL), órgão responsável pela condução do Mundial de 2014.

Pesou na decisão da FIFA a infra-estrutura, capacidade hoteleira, transporte e aeroportos da cidade. E ainda a agilidade dos governos estadual e municipal na viabilização do Itaquerão. 'São Paulo resolveu o problema do estádio em um ano. As outras cidades demoraram até três anos para adequar seus projetos', comentou um graúdo executivo do COL.

Belo Horizonte e Brasília, outras candidatas a receber a abertura, poderiam concorrer com São Paulo apenas na questão dos estádios, mas perderiam feio nas outras exigências da FIFA. É a mesma situação de Salvador, que também demonstrou interesse na partida inaugural, sem ter, no entanto, qualquer chance de vitória na disputa.

Foi justamente à infra-estrutura de São Paulo que o governador Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB) recorreu no início da semana para transmitir que não se abalou com o fato de Blatter ter revelado sua preferência pelo Rio em relação à abertura. O que atrasou o processo em São Paulo, todos sabem e viram, foi somente o problema de alguns políticos que queriam atrair mais atenção do que o próprio evento. E isto é uma pena, pois vemos que ainda não estamos escolhendo bem nossos representantes para administrar e cuidar bem dos nossos interesses, pois ninguém que vive aqui e conhece a capital do estado de São Paulo, tem dúvidas de que esta cidade é uma das grandes metrópoles do mundo e nenhuma outra merece tanto abrir a Copa do Mundo no Brasil, além de ter as condições, só faltava, atitude!

Espero que na próxima eleição o eleitor paulista e os brasileiros tomem mais cuidado e votem melhor.

A Inglaterra deveria ser convidada para enfrentar o Brasil no jogo amistoso de reinauguração do Mineirão, apesar da animosidade do presidente da CBF, Ricardo Teixeira, contra os ingleses, disse à Agência Reuters um representante do governo mineiro.

O Mineirão está passando por uma reforma de 662 milhões de reais para receber a Copa de 2014, e a Inglaterra - que jogou em Belo Horizonte na Copa de 1950 - seria o adversário ideal para a reabertura, na opinião de Sérgio Barroso, secretário de Estado Extraordinário da Copa do Mundo de Minas Gerais.

O estádio já foi o segundo maior do Brasil, chegando a receber um público de 132 mil espectadores. A reforma, com previsão de terminar em dezembro de 2012, vai reduzi-lo a 65 mil lugares, dentro das normas internacionais.

Foi na capital mineira - mas no Estádio Independência, que também está sendo reconstruído com capacidade de 25 mil lugares - que a Inglaterra sofreu uma das maiores zebras da história das Copas, ao perder por 1 x 0 dos EUA em 1950.

"Queremos que a Inglaterra enfrente o Brasil num amistoso na partida inaugural do novo estádio em 8 de fevereiro de 2013, na data reconhecida pela FIFA para amistosos", disse Barroso.

"Sabemos o que o Ricardo Teixeira disse sobre os ingleses, mas a abertura do novo estádio vai além do que ele disse e da opinião dele sobre a Inglaterra. Estou conversando com ele e vou pedir a ele que convide a Inglaterra para jogar aqui."

Teixeira, que também é membro do comitê executivo da FIFA, tem acumulado atritos com os ingleses desde que foi citado numa CPI britânica por David Triesman, ex-presidente da federação local. Na ocasião, Teixeira foi acusado de negociar o recebimento de suborno para votar a favor da candidatura inglesa para receber a Copa de 2018, numa disputa que acabou sendo vencida pela Rússia.

Na sexta-feira, depois da apresentação oficial das 12 cidades-sede da Copa de 2014, Teixeira se recusou, aos gritos, a falar com a imprensa inglesa. Questionado pelos motivos, disse: "Porque ela é corrupta."

A grosseria contra os ingleses foi criticada pelo presidente da FIFA, Joseph Blatter. Barroso admitiu que nesse ambiente, e diante de outras exigências que cercam o calendário internacional, pode ser difícil convencer a CBF a convidar a Inglaterra para enfrentar o Brasil. Por isso, o secretário já tem um plano B.

"Como todo mundo sabe, uma partida famosíssima aconteceu aqui em Belo Horizonte durante a Copa do Mundo de 1950 (...). Para fechar o ciclo e dar à Inglaterra uma chance de revanche, talvez pudéssemos também convidar os Estados Unidos e a Inglaterra para virem aqui para um amistoso."

Esse jogo também precisaria, no entanto, do aval do presidente da CBF.
