Um futebol mágico, a cabeça no lugar e uma integridade que vale ouro: esses três elementos fazem da carreira de Juninho Pernambucano um modelo de sucesso. Os gols de falta e a visão de jogo do meia deixaram marcas no Vasco da Gama, com quem ele venceu a única Libertadores da equipe carioca, em 1998, e no Lyon, onde participou dos sete títulos de campeão francês da história do clube.
A inteligência e a personalidade do brasileiro fizeram dele líder e capitão de todos os times por onde passou, da estreia no Sport do Recife até o Al Gharafa, clube que defende atualmente no Catar. Em entrevista ao FIFA.com, Juninho falou sobre a promessa de voltar a vestir a camisa do Vasco e revelou os planos de trabalhar na administração do Lyon, deixando claro que a sua trajetória no futebol está longe do fim.
A poucos dias do encerramento do Campeonato Catariano, a equipe do site da FIFA bateu um papo com o jogador de 36 anos, que conta com 52 jogos pela Seleção Brasileira e uma Copa das Confederações no currículo.
FIFA.com: Faz dois anos que você está no Catar. Como foi a sua adaptação?
Juninho Pernambucano: A minha vida aqui é muito agradável. Depois de oito anos na França, não tive nenhuma dificuldade especial para me adaptar. É verdade que há uma mudança cultural, mas foi a mesma coisa quando me mudei do Brasil para a França. Sou eu quem está chegando, então cabe a mim fazer um esforço para me adaptar o mais rapidamente possível. E como a qualidade de vida em Doha é muito boa, fica mais fácil se integrar. Foi no âmbito profissional que mais senti a mudança. O futebol do Catar melhorou muito em qualidade, mas em termos de organização existe uma grande diferença em relação à Europa. Lá, quando começamos o campeonato, sabemos exatamente os detalhes de como será a temporada, enquanto aqui ainda existem muitos atrasos na organização da semana de trabalho e das viagens. Esta é a maior mudança, mas até agora tudo correu bem. É uma bela experiência.
Na sua primeira temporada com o Al Gharafa, você conquistou o Campeonato Nacional, a Copa do Príncipe e a Copa das Estrelas. Esperava tanto sucesso?
Adoro competir e adoro ganhar! Tenho isso desde pequeno. Quando assinei com o clube, não era para encerrar tranquilamente a minha carreira e nem para tirar férias, e sim para continuar jogando bem, sabendo que haveria menos partidas na temporada e que seria mais fácil de gerenciar, portanto. Claro que eu não esperava tanto sucesso rápido assim, mas sabia que tinha me transferido para uma boa equipe que vinha de dois títulos de campeão. Conseguimos o tricampeonato no ano passado e também chegamos às quartas de final da Liga dos Campeões da Ásia. Foi a melhor temporada da história do clube. Para mim, isso é tão importante quanto o que vivi no Lyon e no Brasil. Infelizmente não conseguimos manter o título na atual temporada, só brigamos pelo segundo lugar. Mas ainda há as duas Copas e tentaremos ganhar pelo menos uma.
Você disputou a Copa Libertadores, a Liga dos Campeões da UEFA e também a da Ásia.
Essas três competições despertam a mesma paixão nos jogadores e na torcida?
Os times têm o mesmo objetivo em toda parte: participar do torneio que reúne os melhores. Todo time tem vontade de disputar esse torneio. No Brasil, conseguir vaga na Libertadores é quase mais difícil do que depois que se participou uma vez. Para muita gente, a Liga dos Campeões europeia é a melhor competição de clubes do mundo, mas sem os times brasileiros. E na Ásia encontrei um torneio com a mesma paixão e um nível muito bom. Infelizmente não consegui ganhar na Europa com o Lyon e no ano passado também fui eliminado com o Al Gharafa, mas tive a sorte de vencer a Libertadores com o Vasco da Gama. Foi maravilhoso. São competições fantásticas com que todo jogador sonha.
Na última temporada você foi eleito o melhor jogador do campeonato, mas não dá para falar do seu futebol sem mencionar as cobranças de falta. Você continua trabalhando nelas, mesmo aos 36 anos?
Talvez seja um dom. Tenho a capacidade de bater bem na bola, mas o principal é que trabalhei muito para isso. É treinando que se evolui. O meu sucesso é uma mistura de trabalho, vontade e prazer de treinar. Durante toda a minha carreira, os treinos com bola parada sempre foram muito importantes. Isso se tornou o ponto forte do meu futebol. Continuo tendo o mesmo prazer em trabalhar e é isso o que tento mostrar aos meus companheiros mais jovens. O melhor exemplo para eles é que estou com 36 anos e continuo recebendo propostas para jogar em alto nível. O mais importante é fazer todas as coisas com coração.
O Catar foi escolhido para receber a Copa do Mundo da FIFA em 2022. O que você achou dessa decisão?
Não fiquei surpreso com a escolha, porque o Catar trabalhou bastante e apresentou um projeto muito bonito. É o primeiro país do Golfo a ser escolhido pela FIFA para sediar a Copa do Mundo e isso deixará as portas abertas para os demais. Todos os países do mundo têm o direito de pedir para receberem uma Copa. Será um torneio incrível e os torcedores terão a possibilidade de ver diversas partidas, porque tudo acontecerá dentro de um perímetro pequeno. É claro que o calor será algo muito importante, mas o Catar tem tudo para conseguir realizar uma das melhores Copas da história.
Depois que você saiu do Lyon, o clube não ganhou nenhum título. O que está faltando para voltar a vencer? Acha que o time não encontrou um substituto para você, tanto dentro de campo quanto no vestiário?
Nunca vai existir um time que possa ganhar tudo sempre. Completamos uma série excepcional de sete títulos consecutivos. É difícil ganhar, e ainda mais difícil continuar ganhando. Mas o Lyon manteve uma equipe competitiva e que chegou à semifinal da Liga dos Campeões, coisa que eu jamais consegui fazer. Quanto à minha saída, acredito sinceramente que ninguém é insubstituível, salvo talvez jogadores como Pelé ou Ronaldo quando encerram as suas carreiras, algo que também vai acontecer com o Lionel Messi. Eu não sou insubstituível e o Lyon já virou a página da minha saída. Mas é um clube cuja história marquei pessoalmente. Guardo o Lyon sempre no coração e na memória, por isso tenho vontade de voltar um dia para desempenhar alguma função e ajudar com a minha experiência.
Você tem a sensação de ter deixado o clube um ano mais cedo?
As coisas aconteceram tão bem para mim no Al Gharafa que eu não tenho o direito de lamentar. Mas é claro, fui embora um pouco cedo. Eu poderia ter jogado outras duas temporadas no Lyon. Mas é um pouco a cultura da França: eu era um jogador estrangeiro que ganhava muito e fiquei meio cansado de receber todas as críticas individualmente quando a equipe começou a não vencer mais, e de ouvir as pessoas dizerem que o time só jogava para mim. Eu queria ter continuado, mas gostaria principalmente de ter recebido um pouco mais de apoio de todo mundo. Respeito as críticas, mas começou a ficar complicado fora de campo. Eu não tinha mais escolha, então decidi sair. Mas acho que poderia ter jogado mais duas temporadas.
Atualmente uma série de jogadores da Seleção Brasileira estão voltando ao país e, de tempos em tempos, ouve-se falar de um retorno de Juninho Pernambucano ao Vasco. É verdade?
A verdade é que, no dia em que fui embora, prometi que um dia voltaria para jogar outra vez pelo Vasco. É por isso que os torcedores sempre me perguntam: "volta quando?" Sei que as portas estão abertas para mim lá. Estou no fim do contrato com o Al Gharafa e recebi uma proposta do Vasco. Estamos conversando e existe uma possibilidade de eu assinar. Infelizmente, se eu assinar agora, não serei inscrito para o começo do Campeonato Brasileiro e só vou poder jogar a partir de agosto, e somente por quatro meses. Mas vou decidir nas próximas semanas.
A sua carreira na Seleção não condiz com o sucesso que você conquistou jogando por clubes. Tem algum arrependimento?
Honestamente, não tenho o direito de querer mudar coisa alguma na minha carreira. Tive uma bela trajetória até agora, não enfrentei problemas físicos, disputei mais de 700 partidas, ganhei mais de 20 títulos. Certo, não tive o mesmo sucesso com a Seleção Brasileira, mas ainda assim participei de uma Copa do Mundo e venci uma Copa das Confederações. Mas não se pode ter tudo na vida. Prefiro olhar para a frente. Só olho para trás para aprender. E vejo que marquei a história de um clube no Brasil e de outro na França. É uma satisfação enorme e talvez esta deva ser a minha história.

FIFA.com: Two years ago you are in Qatar. How was your adjustment?
Juninho Pernambucano: My life here is very nice. After eight years in France, had no particular difficulty to adapt myself. I love competing and I love winning! I have it from childhood. You played in the Copa Libertadores, the UEFA Champions League and also in Asia. These three competitions arouse the same passion in the players and fans?
The teams have the same goal everywhere: in the tournament that brings together the best. Every team wants to play this tournament. In Brazil, get a scholarship in the Libertadores is almost more difficult than after they came once. For many, the European Champions League is the best club competition in the world, but without the Brazilian teams. And in Asia found a tournament with the same passion and a very good level. Unfortunately I could not win in Europe in Lyon last year and was also eliminated with the Al Gharafa, but was lucky to win the Libertadores with Vasco da Gama. It was wonderful. Last season you were elected the best player in the league, but you can not talk about his football without mentioning the kicks. You keep working on them, even at age 36?
Maybe it's a gift. I have the ability to hit the ball well, but the main thing is that I worked hard for it. It is training that develops. Qatar was chosen to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. What do you think this decision?
I was not surprised with the choice, because Qatar has worked hard and had a very nice design. It is the first Gulf country to be chosen by FIFA to host the World Cup and that would leave the door open for others. Every country in the world has the right to request to receive a World Cup. It will be an incredible tournament and the fans will be able to see several games because everything happens within a small perimeter. Of course, the heat will be very important, but Qatar has everything to accomplish one of the best World Cups in history.
After you left the Lyon, the club has not won any title. What is missing to win again? Do you think the team did not find a replacement for you, both on the field and in the locker room?
There will never be a team that can win everything forever. We completed an exceptional series of seven consecutive titles. It's hard to win, and even harder to keep winning. But Lyon and maintained a competitive team that reached the semifinals of the Champions League, something I could never do. As for my departure, I sincerely believe that nobody is irreplaceable, save perhaps players like Pele or Ronaldo when they finished their careers, something that will happen to Lionel Messi. I am not irreplaceable and Lyon has already turned the page of my output. But a club whose history is marked person.
