SÃO PAULO - Candidato da situação, Mário Gobbi confirmou o favoritismo e foi eleito neste sábado o novo presidente do Corinthians. Com o apoio decisivo de Andrés Sanchez, ele ganhou a eleição com facilidade, conseguindo enorme vantagem sobre o oposicionista Paulo Garcia. Assim, comandará o clube nos próximos três anos.

Delegado da Polícia Civil, Mário Gobbi Filho tem 50 anos e foi diretor de futebol em grande parte da administração de Andrés Sanchez, que comandava o clube desde a saída de Alberto Dualib em 2007. Assim, a plataforma de campanha do novo presidente do Corinthians foi a continuidade do trabalho que vinha sendo feito, com ênfase para a construção do futuro estádio em Itaquera, o CT Joaquim Grava, o novo estatuto e, claro, o título de campeão brasileiro de 2011.

A maior parte dos diretores vai continuar no cargo, entre eles Luis Paulo Rosenberg, diretor de marketing e um dos principais articuladores da construção do Itaquerão. O novo presidente, inclusive, terá a honra de inaugurar o estádio em 2013.

Dos cerca de 11 mil sócios do clube que estavam aptos a votar, apenas 3.300 participaram da eleição neste sábado, quando as urnas ficaram abertas das 9 às 17 horas no ginásio do Parque São Jorge. Apesar da campanha ostensiva dos dois candidatos, o clima foi de tranquilidade durante todo o dia, sem maiores confusões.

Na apuração, o ginásio ficou dividido entre simpatizantes dos dois candidatos. Mas a vitória de Mário Gobbi ficou clara logo nas primeiras urnas, tamanha sua vantagem sobre Paulo Garcia. Assim, o grupo liderado por Andrés Sanchez, o grande cabo eleitoral da vitória, pôde comemorar a permanência no poder.
