Dear Reader,

The airport's packed. Everyone seems to have a shiny smartphone and brand-name clothing. They're sipping on coffee and checking their e-mails as they wait in line.

I'm here to scout, but these folks are going on vacation. They're part of Brazil's new middle class. And, same as everyone else, once they have more money to spend, they like to buy luxuries...the latest electronics, expensive clothes, new cars, vacations...and a nice home.

We're all going to the city of Fortaleza, Recife, Maceió, João Pessoa on Brazil's northeast coast. All City's is a tourist magnet, bringing in more than five million visitors a year. They come to sun themselves on the pretty beaches...dine in the growing number of restaurants and cafes...shop in the malls...and party the night away in the trendy clubs and beach bars.

The city's grown considerably in the last 5 years. It's added new shopping malls...one of the country's largest convention centers...new metro lines...and a new boardwalk. Soccer's World Cup comes to town next year. That will bring even more visitors to this already popular tourist hot spot.

We watched as the last prime building sites on the old boardwalk changed hands and eventually became new luxury condo towers. Today, the old boardwalk is almost built out.

Tourists like coming here. It's a really nice place to hang out, with an amazing landscape of dunes, lakes and white-sand beaches.

It's a great place to spend an afternoon...swimming, surfing, or sitting in the shade of a palm tree with a long, cool drink. The quickest way to get from one place to the next is to ride along the sand in a beach buggy. It's a whole lot of fun.

There's a big story happening here, at northeast of our country in great Citys, like Recife, Fortaleza, João Pessoa, Maceió, and many others.. It's not about the beaches or the little villages or the tourists. The government has plans to transform one spot on this coast, bringing in businesses and creating thousands more jobs. If it works out, this could become Brazil's next boom zone.

PRIMEIRO ESTÁDIO PRONTO PARA A COPA, CASTELÃO SERÁ INAUGURADO DOMINGO COM SHOW DE FAGNER / FIRST STADIUM READY FOR THE WORLD CUP, CASTELÃO WILL OPEN SUNDAY WITH FAGNER SHOW

O primeiro dos 12 estádios brasileiros que estão sendo construídos ou reformados para a Copa de 2014 será inaugurado neste domingo, em Fortaleza. A solenidade de entrega das obras do Castelão contará com a presença da presidente Dilma Rousseff e terá um show do cantor cearense Raimundo Fagner - o local só começará a receber jogos no dia 27 de janeiro.

A expectativas do governo cearense é de que cerca de 20 mil pessoas estejam na cerimônia de inauguração no domingo, marcadas para começar às 19 horas (horário de Brasília). O público poderá visitar o estádio e ver o resultado da obra, mas a solenidade com as autoridades e o show de Fagner acontecerá no palco montado do lado de fora.

O jogo inaugural do Castelão acontecerá apenas no dia 27 de janeiro, com uma rodada dupla envolvendo os dois principais times da capital cearense, válida pela Copa do Nordeste. "Fechamos acordo com a CBF", disse o secretário estadual da Copa Ferruccio Feitosa. Assim, haverá Ceará x Bahia a partir das 17 horas e Fortaleza x Sport com início às 19h30.

Mas o estádio já está pronto para a festa de inauguração no domingo - até mesmo as marcações do gramado estão feitas e as traves foram colocadas. Para reconstruir o Castelão, que passa a ter capacidade para receber 67 mil pessoas, foram investidos R$ 518,6 milhões, sendo que 351,5 milhões vieram de financiamento federal através do BNDES.

O Castelão receberá três jogos da Copa das Confederações, em junho de 2013, e mais seis partidas na Copa do Mundo de 2014. Depois dele, o próximo estádio a ser inaugurado será o Mineirão, no dia 21 de dezembro, em Belo Horizonte. Os demais têm previsão de entrega para o ano que vem, sendo que quatro deles até março (Rio, Brasília, Recife e Salvador).

Entrega do Mineirão na próxima sexta-feira ­ O estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto, o Mineirão, será a segunda arena entregue para a Copa do Mundo. Após dois anos e meio fechado para reforma, as obras estão prontas e serão entregues na próxima sexta-feira (21/12). Às 20 horas haverá um show da banda Jota Quest.

O evento contará com a presença do governador mineiro Antonio Anastasia e outras autoridades. Cerca de quinze mil ingressos serão disponibilizados para o público, que poderá conhecer as transformações internas do Mineirão. As entradas poderão ser trocadas por alimentos não-perecíveis.

O jogo inaugural do Mineirão será o clássico Cruzeiro x Atlético, na abertura do Campeonato Mineiro, no dia 3 de fevereiro de 2013.

Começaram as inaugurações e como não poderia deixar de ser, os políticos estão deitando e rolando com essa promoção grátis. É uma pena que muitos se aproveitam desse evento chamado Copa do Mundo, mas sem sombra de dúvidas teremos um legado excelente para o País e principalmente para o futebol brasileiro.

Tenho minhas dúvidas sobre se seguiremos realmente as determinações da FIFA que tenta tirar do século passado as instalações que muitos aqui chamam de estádios e que não passam de pardieiros, onde não existe nenhuma condição de receber pessoas e muito menos, crianças, idosos e até pessoas com necessidade de uma melhor acessibilidade. 

Aqui, até para urinar, temos que fazer um sacrifício, entrar na maioria dos sanitários nesses ”estádios” é um verdadeiro suplicio. 

Espero que isso tenha aquele efeito cascata, para que possamos ter Arenas modernas, confiáveis e humanizadas em todo o interior brasileiro. E até vou mais adiante, caberia ao Ministério dos Esportes, conscientizar os novos gestores municipais sobre a necessidade de se ter Arenas municipais com centro de treinamento, academias, enfim, praças esportivas para tirar o jovem da rua, a meu ver, isto será muito mais importante, do que combater o crack (droga) com medidas paliativas e repressão, prevenir é a melhor solução, porque, fechar a porta depois de roubado, não funciona.

Na manhã desta terça-feira, o secretário-geral da FIFA, Jérôme Valcke, visitou Fortaleza para ver o andamento das obras para a Copa de 2014. Acompanhado por Ronaldo, diretor do Comitê Organizador Local (COL), e pelo ministro do Esporte, Aldo Rebelo, o dirigente revelou ter-se impressionado com o Centro de Eventos do Ceará (CEC), que tem 96% de suas obras concluídas.

"Vocês me conhecem: se tenho que falar alguma coisa negativa, eu falo. O centro de eventos que eu vi hoje é impressionante. Pode-se dirigir um ônibus lá dentro. Há uma grande possibilidade que seja a sede do sorteio, um evento pra três mil convidados e mil trabalhadores de imprensa. São vários candidatos, mas há uma grande possibilidade. Hotéis, aeroporto e espaço incrível", afirmou Valcke.

"Fortaleza é uma real e forte candidata para sediar o sorteio das chaves", admitiu o secretário da FIFA depois da visita - ele ainda vai à tarde para Salvador. Draw for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers will be in Rio/Sorteio das Eliminatórias da Copa de 2014 será no Rio.

ZURIQUE - A FIFA informou nesta segunda-feira que o sorteio para as eliminatórias para a Copa do Mundo de 2014 acontecerá no Rio de Janeiro.

O evento do próximo dia 30 de julho será realizado na Marina da Glória, local que receberá as competições de vela da Olimpíada de 2016.

O sorteio englobará seleções do mundo todo, que serão divididas entre as Eliminatórias Sul-Americanas, Europeias, Asiáticas, Africanas, da Oceania e da Concacaf. Vale lembrar que o Brasil não participará do qualificatório por ser o país-sede do Mundial.

Apesar de o sorteio acontecer apenas em julho, alguns países asiáticos já estará brigando por um lugar na Copa do Mundo em junho. Eles participarão de duas rodadas preliminares que darão vagas no sorteio principal das Eliminatórias. O Mundial será disputado entre 13 de junho e 13 de julho de 2014, no Brasil.

Estou torcendo por Recife ter um grupo forte e quem sabe ter o Brasil nele. Se isto acontecer, nossa cidade brindará a Seleção como sempre fez, lotando a Arena de São Lourenço na Cidade da Copa.
